Busan Gwangalli Food Tour — Milmyeon with an Ocean View
Last updated: · Also in: 日本語繁體中文简体中文
Milmyeon (밀면) is Busan's signature cold noodle dish: chewy wheat noodles in icy, savory broth, born when wartime refugees remade northern naengmyeon with wheat flour. One of our favorite ways to eat it is at Dongmyeonsik Milmyeon (동면식 밀면) near Gwangalli Beach, with the sea and Gwangan Bridge right outside the window.
How to eat milmyeon like a local
- First, taste it plain. Before adding anything, try a few bites of noodles and broth on their own — clean, cold and lightly sweet-savory.
- Then add the red sauce. Stir in the spicy sauce (yangnyeom) that comes on top or on the side. The same bowl becomes bold and punchy. Trying it both ways is half the fun.
- Sip the hot broth. Many milmyeon places hand you a cup of hot bone broth (sagol yuksu). At Dongmyeonsik it is deep and rich — a warm sip between cold bites is the classic Busan combo.
- Vinegar and mustard are on the table if you want a sharper taste.
| Order | What it is |
|---|---|
| Mul milmyeon (물밀면) | Noodles in cold broth — the classic |
| Bibim milmyeon (비빔밀면) | Noodles tossed in spicy sauce, little broth |
| Hot broth cup | Usually served free — don't skip it |
Make it a Gwangalli food walk
- Milmyeon by the window at lunch while the beach is bright.
- Walk the beach promenade along Gwangan Bridge.
- Raw fish (hoe) at the Millak waterfront area next to the beach — a Busan favorite.
- Stay for the night view. Gwangan Bridge lights up after dark, and drone light shows are held over the beach on many weekend nights (check the schedule before you go).
Tips
- Popular spots get a lunch rush. If you see a tablet at the door, read our guide on CatchTable and restaurant waitlists — just standing in line may not get you a table.
- Search the restaurant name in Korean (동면식 밀면) on Naver Map or Kakao Map for directions and hours.
